Three Continents: Stories and Essays
by Chandan Sen
Price: $7.95
ISBN: 1-932482-28-8

From the author: I find the small acts within my observation interesting enough to merit writing about. The little boy mending shoes by the roadside, the millionaire mill-owner who shows a rare form of kindness, birds who talk and beasts who don’t find a place in my collection of vignettes. My questing eye has roamed over the sordid and the sublime and found humor and pathos in everyday situations. Both scoundrel and hero are depicted here. Yet, unlike the camera, which does not lie, I have slanted my writings to show dignity and goodness, honor and faith.

About the Author

Chandan Sen was born in 1951 in Calcutta, recently renamed Kolkata, the city known around the world as Mother Teresa’s head quarters.

After his initial schooling in Auxilium Convent, run by Italian nuns at Bandel, he went to England for a year with his parents and sister, and studied for a year at St. John’s, Baxenden, Lancashire. This was followed by six years at a Calcutta school founded by General Claude Martin in the last century.

Sen’s first college experience was at St. Xavier’s, Calcutta, run by Belgian priests, where he graduated with a major in Physics and minors in Chemistry and Math. This was followed by an Electronics and Communications degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Following three years of work at the Indian Telephone Industries, Bangalore, Sen obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta. This was followed by a year at the Microprocessor Laboratory of that same University.

In 1984, Sen came to the USA as a student, and obtained his Master’s degree, again in Computer Engineering, from North Carolina University. This was followed by a year working for the Research Triangle Institute at the Research Triangle Park. But a sense of duty took him back to India, where he spent the next thirteen years working as a consultant, writing, teaching, and taking courses in Marketing and Java.

Throughout his technical career, Sen kept up with his non-technical writings and got published in various prestigious print media. “Three Continents” is his first book, and holds a mirror to Sen’s mind and thinking, values and principles.
