The Boson Books Newsletter: Fall 2006
Greetings from Boson Books! We’d like to take a moment to pass on some news of interest. First up, we’re pleased to note the following new releases. On the creative non-fiction front, we have Except Education by Chris Dahl, in which the author describes what really happens inside of American public high schools. In these pages are the tales of the lawyers who “advocate” for students and threaten to sue any teacher who does not comply. Fights, rapes, drugs, and stories of ordinary madness are countered by the frustration of educators stuck in tedious and political situations that sap their will to do something truly noble: teach the young. We’re also pleased to note a new volume of short mystery stories, Mayhem, Mystery, and Murder by John A. Broussard. This volume is a follow-up to John’s popular Fifty-Minutes Flaherty, which presents forty-one fast moving mysteries. Mayhem, Mystery, and Murder ups the ante with over fifty (!) short mysteries. John’s stories are like those famous potato chips: you can’t read just one… We’d also like to call your attention to Randy Smith’s Heroes of the Santa Fe Trail. Randy has lived in the shadow of the trail his entire life, and his expertise enlivens every page of Heroes. His new book tells the dramatic story of the men and womenHispanic, Anglo, and Native Americanwho settled the West and provides fresh insights. From the Hispanic Jaramillo and Chavez families of the Rio Grande Valley to the legacy of Ham Bell, a nonviolent man who made more arrests than any Dodge City lawman, Heroes brings adventures on the early Santa Fe Trail to vivid life. Boson Books has recently published the proceedings of the MAM 2006 Conference in both print and ebook form. Contact us if you have technical material including textbooks you want to make available to a worldwide audience. And here’s some high-tech news: Sony will soon introduce its Sony Reader, an e-book reader based upon the breakthrough technology of Electronic Ink. The technology itself is complex, but the result is beautifully simple: a clear, highly readable page display…as clear as print on a page. The Reader is the size of a paperback and will be available from Sony later this spring. We at Boson are particularly pleased by this development. Unfortunately, the reader will not have a search facility or dictionary look-up capability. A review can be found at CNET. The Hanlin E-Reader is also based on the E-ink technology. Finally, we encourage you to take advantage of some Boson Books specials. Stop by Ebooks.com and Mobipocket.com to see what we have to offer you. We hope to have more author interviews in forthcoming newsletters. Questions? Comments? We’d enjoy hearing from you. Drop us a line at: cm@cmoline.com |
