The Boson Books Newsletter: Summer 2008

Hello to book lovers around the world. Since 1994, Boson has offered a distinctive line of fiction and nonfiction. And with summer settling in, Boson is pleased to note some new titles.

Kit Black by Monica Danetiu-Pana, is a historical romance about life on the high seas in the early 1800s. The title character must face ever more harrowing challenges to survive the dangerous life of seeking her fortune on the sea. Kit Black is a compelling narrative combining thrills, hope - and a touching romance that goes beyond the conventions of the genre.

The author of Kit Black, Monica Danetiu-Pana, is as prolific as she is inventive. Boson has recently released a another novel by Monica:  Intimate Strangers Affair. Set in the era of the American Civil War, Intimate Strangers Affair features a remarkable heroine, Nathalie Arnaud. As the narrative begins, Nathalie is returning to her home, San Francisco, after earning her medical degree from L'Ecole de Medicin in Paris. A series of adventures commences, one that finds Nathalie struggling to save her brother’s life; to survive as a spy for the North; and to perhaps find genuine love.

The Bent Pyramid by Hugh McLeave. Like Monica Danetiu-Pana, our Mr. McLeave is a prolific and widely read author. His latest mystery offers Ewan Chisholm, whose talent as an Egyptologist is matched by his talent as a drinker. Ordered by his curator at the Aspenwall Museum to fetch Sir William Garfield Tate’s papers from his widow, Ewan discovers an envelope containing snapshots of never-before-seen  pharaonic jewelry. He is soon dispatched on a mission to unravel the mystery of the jewelry's whereabouts. What follows? Secret passages! Burial chambers! And a most surprising conclusion!

More news of note: as you likely know, the e-book platform has reached the mainstream. With the introduction of Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader, Boson’s line of e-books can be read with a device that’s truly a pleasure to use. Time magazine recently reported that the Kindle’s sales are on the rise. After an initial sell-out, the Kindle’s production was ramped up to meet demand. The price was dropped as well.

The Kindle will soon have some company…a new device, the Readius, will be introduced in Europe later this year, with the U.S. debut in the spring of ‘09. The Readius has a unique feature: it’s flexible. Yes, it bends.
